Detectomat GmbH was established in 1977 and is one of the leading providers in the field of fire detection technology.
As a medium-sized company and part of the DEF Network, one of the largest independent manufacturers of fire protection system technology in Europe, we offer products and services that are built on our many years of experience and our exacting quality standards.
Our product portfolio ranges from individual components right the way up to complex system solutions, all directly from the manufacturer. At the headquarters of Detectomat Systems GmbH in Ahrensburg, Germany, we develop, produce and distribute products that meet the needs of the market.
With a strong market presence thanks to branches in ten other countries, the company is on solid ground and can guarantee flawless execution and delivery performance even on major projects. The fire detection technology developed by DEF has been used in international projects involving constructions such as the Eurotunnel and the Louvre Museum in Paris, as well as in major projects at universities, power plants and airports. These high-profile projects are a reflection of the trust placed in the DEF Network the world over.
With a decentralised, international development team of more than 130 specialists, we work to create an optimised digital framework for our products and services. We view high-performance software tools for planning, project design, programming and commissioning as a vital piece of the puzzle when it comes to cost-effectiveness and future-proof applications.
With the takeover of Simax electronics GmbH by Detectomat Systems at the end of 2021, the existing product range has been expanded to include voice alarm systems, the position of our company as a manufacturer of high-quality safety products for the fire alarm specialist market has been strengthened, and processes have been tailored to the requirements in Germany.
WHAT WE STAND FOR

German Supply Chain Act
“... The German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz) places an obligation on companies to perform appropriate due diligence with respect to human rights and certain environmental risks in their supply chains. The obligations that companies are required to fulfil are graduated based on the company’s actual ability to exert influence and depend on whether it involves a department within the company itself, a direct contractual partner or an indirect supplier.
The law entered into force on 1 January 2023 for companies with at least 3000 employees. It will apply to companies with at least 1000 employees from 1 January 2024 ...”
But even if the law never applied to us, we would follow it anyway – it just makes sense. As a medium-sized company, it goes without saying that we comply with the applicable laws concerning human rights and environmental issues. In 2022, 59% of our purchases came from the domestic market (Germany) and 27% from the EU (predominantly France); just 12% came from China. With this high total share of 86%, we can be confident that we are in a strong position when it comes to this issue. Audits are performed on a regular basis to evaluate our main suppliers, and by complying with ISO 9001 we also ensure that we are adhering to the fundamental requirements of the Supply Chain Act.
All issues in these areas are supported centrally by the DEF Network, and are also implemented at this level.
Environmental
Sustainability: This is all about our natural environment, which needs to be protected and preserved. For example, sustainable companies use renewable raw materials wherever possible and support the conservation of these materials. These companies use renewable energy and optimise the energy efficiency of their processes throughout the value chain. They avoid processes and actions that harm the environment as far as possible.
What we are doing:
- Using recyclable packaging that can be reused in the cycle
- Saving and reducing packaging material
- Converting lighting to LED – reducing energy costs and consumption
- Focussing on achieving a low failure rate in production – improving efficiency and reducing the scrap rate
- Participating in the ‘Der Grüne Punkt’ (Green Dot) programme – refer to the certificate here …?
Social
If you want to run a sustainable business, you need to take social responsibility too. This is about ensuring humane working conditions in the supply chain as well as the company, fighting poverty at a national or international level and, of course, showing appreciation for the company’s own employees. Social responsibility also includes equal opportunities, health, diversity and maintaining a work/life balance.
What we are doing:
- Offering flexible working hours
- Offering mobile working
- Using digital tools in all areas
- Ensuring less business travel, reducing time/effort
- Offering participation in bonus schemes
Economic
It’s no use putting all that time and effort putting into sustainability if your company is not operating on a sustainable basis. Sustainable companies are not usually purely profit driven. They also strive to provide a better quality of life for current and future generations. In other words, it is not about profit above all else, but about generating profit in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.
What we are doing:
- Investing in new technologies for products and tools in order to maintain our high standards and motivate employees
- Moving to new office and production facilities in Ahrensburg
- Providing a state-of-the-art environment
